What Is Golden Hour Photography?
Golden hour photography means taking photos during the short time after sunrise or before sunset. For most family sessions, I love the evening golden hour.
At this time of day, the sun is much lower in the sky. Instead of the bright light we see in the middle of the day, the light becomes softer and warmer. It can create a beautiful glow around your family without the harsh shadows that come with strong sunlight.
The exact time for golden hour changes throughout the year. In the summer, we may start a family session later in the evening. During fall or winter, we usually start earlier.
That timing matters. I plan each session around the light so we can make the most of it.
As the sun gets lower, the light also keeps changing. We may start with bright, warm light and finish with soft colors as the sun goes down. This gives us lots of variety without having to move to several different places.
